Variables are used to store information in computer programming.

To illustrate this activity select a volunteer from the audience.

First you will need to "initialize" the variable with a name and a value. Let's make initialize the variable as "1". (Have the student hold up the number one).

Next "set" the variable to a new number (let an audience member pick).

We can also "get" the value of the variable.

Select another volunteer from the audience. We will initialize this variable as a boolean variable.

Boolean variables can be "true" or "false".

Allow the audience to "set" and "get" the variables a couple of times.
